querencia (noun) /keˈɾenθja/
a special bond that connects us to where we live, a relationship built on layers of memories

When I arrived to Ann Arbor three years ago, I only had three criteria for establishing querencia:
— an inviting natural presence — check!
— a rich creative scene — check!
— and walkability — check, again!

In retrospect, I claim that the company we keep is a far more crucial aspect of querencia. 
I have been fortunate to befriend remarkable individuals who exude a contagious aura of conviction and determination. 
Together, we have struggled through problem sets and spurred personal growth.
They offered unwavering support during my manuscript rejection and even as I founded a startup in my dorm.

Embracing querencia has honed my sense of purpose and mindfulness.
I look forward to the ongoing challenge of building this deep connection in the communities I join and create.
